Is it possible the best way to lose weight is without dieting or working out?
According to JJ Smith in her book Lose Weight Without Dieting or Working Out, dieting and working out do not work for losing weight. There is, however says Smith, an effective way to lose weight and keep it off by using what she calls the Detox-Eat-Move System (DEM System).
Here’s why dieting and working out do not work.
Smith believes people should stop counting calories and instead eat an abundance of foods from quality calories such as those found it healthy, organic whole foods.
Intensive workouts are not necessary for weight loss.
Getting and staying slim and having a healthy glow is more about the foods you eat than how much you exercise. Smith says that while working out is an excellent to way to get fit and improve health, getting a little more physically active every day is a better way to lose weight. For example, taking the stairs instead of the elevator or getting in 30 minutes of light walking is a better alternative to an intense workout.
Why are so many people overweight and obese?
According to Smith, there are two reasons so many people are overweight and obese: too many toxins in the body and sugar addiction.
It’s imperative to detox your body to lose weight effectively and healthfully. Smith lists several different ways to detox your body. The main way to detox is by eating natural, organic, foods including raw green leafy veggies, onions, citrus fruits, broccoli sprouts, seeds, nuts, and beans. She also recommends taking omega-3 oils and other herbs.
Another reason so many people are overweight and obese is most people are sugar addicts. Smith backs up her statement that sugar is more addicting than cocaine with university research.
Eating sugar makes people feel better emotionally for a short time but also sets them up to binge later. The cycle of binging is because there are no nutrients in sugar, so the body keeps craving more sugar to compensate for the lack of nutrients.
Detox-Eat-Move DEM System
Smith’s main philosophy to break the sugar addiction and detox the body is based on her Detox-Eat-Move System. The DEM System consists of five “commandments:”
- Detoxify your body.
- Correct your hormonal imbalances to control your appetite.
- Accelerate your metabolism.
- Eat foods that promote weight loss
- Avoid foods that promote weight gain
Lose Weight Without Dieting or Working Out Food Plan
On the three-phase DEM System you don’t need to count calories. It’s not the number of calories you eat. It’s the type of calories you eat that will help you lose weight.
The first three week long phase is basically a whole foods organic diet.
There are six things to avoid on Smith’s DEM System during the first three-week phase:
- Caffeinated drinks
- Sugar – all sweets and processed foods
- Starches – white breads, rice, pasta, and potatoes
If you really can’t give up something like caffeine, just do the best you can. You don’t have to do it perfectly. Keep in mind, you can add some of these foods back into your diet one at a time during the second phase.
Foods you can eat during the first phase consist of the following:
- Fresh vegetables
- Whole grains
- Beans and legumes
- Nuts and seeds
- Healthy fats
The calories from these foods enter your bloodstream slowly, and will promote weight loss.
It’s a good idea to balance good carbs, proteins, and fats to avoid spikes in insulin and fat storage. For example, eat nuts or beans along with vegetables and grains. It’s also strongly recommended that you use natural colonics or colon-cleansing herbs or supplements.
Most people can expect to lose a lot of weight fast during the first phase.
The second phase of Smith’s system consists of slowly adding other types of foods including lean proteins like fish and chicken and dairy. During this phase you want to be aware of any food allergies you may have, so it’s important to add one food at a time and wait a few days to see how your body reacts.
You will also continue to use detox methods and nutritional supplements.
Continue eating clean, healthy, balanced meals.
Get moving by making small changes in your everyday routines. Measure your current activity levels and add to them. For example, you can use a minicycle at your desk or while watching television. You can also take short, brisk walks during your lunch breaks. Eventually, you’ll become more physically active and should incorporate short sessions of strength training into your daily routine.
